MONDAY BANDELE
Name: Monday Bandele
Country: Nigeria
Position: Striker

Signed from: Paris St.Germain in December 2000
Left for: Galatasaray in September 2002

Monday Bandele was twice named African Football of the Year before Harchester United attempted to sign him in November 2000.

When he arrived in Harchester for a medical, Bandele broke down with a knee injury and with it, the transfer also broke down. But just over a month later, the Dragons finally got their man.

When he did arrive in Harchester again, he was arrested for illegal entry into the UK and for not being an eligible EU citizen - that was until he married his Northern Irish girlfriend.

Bandele then went on to have a really successful season as the Dragons finished in 3rd place, thus gaining a Champions League qualifying place - Bandele was also the clubs top goalscorer.

The following season saw Bandele suffering with constant ankle injury problems which made him miss the UEFA Cup Final.

He also had a brief spell as player/manager before being replaced by his old PSG manager, Patrick Doyle.

Bandele was sold to Turkish club Galatasaray in September 2002.

DIDIER BAPTISTE
Name: Didier Baptiste
Country: France
Position: Defender

Signed from: AS Monaco in November 1999
Left for: Olympique Marseille in October 2000

Didier Baptiste signed for Harchester United in a surprise move after both Arsenal and Liverpool had been favourites to sign to France international.

Baptiste made it clear as to what his intentions were when signing for the Dragons, and that was "to build a legend" at the club. Before long, he was made the Dragons captain.

However, at the beginning of his second season with the club, Baptiste was rumoured to have taken money to lose the final game of the pervious season that would have saw the Dragons relegated.

He, and the club itself, were later cleared of these allegations by the FA but the rumours by The World newspaper had already done serious damage to Baptiste's reputation and he was sold to Marseille.

ANDREI BELANOV
Name: Andrei Belanov
Country: Ukraine
Position: Defender / Midfield

Signed from: Steaua Bucharest in July 2001
Left for: AS Monaco in February 2002

Andrei Belanov became Harchester United's record transfer signing at a cost of £9million in July 2001 from Romanian side Steaua Bucharest.

It took a long time for the Dragons fans to actually take to Belanov, but when they did, it became an interesting love affair. Sadly, he was sold just months later after a bust up with the team and an outburst on TV.

JOHN BLACK
Name: John Black
Country: England
Position: Defender

Signed from: Leyton Orient in February 1999
Left for: Died in May 1999

John Black was brought into Harchester United for £250,000 from Leyton Orient to add some experience to a young and often vulnerable Dragons defence.

Within weeks of being in the Harchester United first team, Black had already been made apart of the first team coaching staff and was also made club captain in place of Karl Fletcher.

Black's great defensive ability and experience guided Harchester United to a 6th place finish in the Premiership and the FA Cup Final for the first time in the club's history.

It was at that 1999 FA Cup Final that John Black would play the best and final game of his life. After leading the team up the famous steps of Wembley to lift the FA Cup, he was shot dead just minutes later.
