Harchester United
begin their 2008/09 season on Thursday evening with a tie away to St.
Patricks Athletic in the UEFA Cup and they take with them a
less-than-impressive pre-season campaign.
In Steve Kramer's first
month in charge, there has been a mixed bag of results that has clearly left
the impression that the team may be lacking the confidence they once had
under Jimmy Craig.
Pre-season began with a 2-0 away
defeat to Bohemians in the Inter Toto Cup, but the Dragons managed to
progress to the UEFA Cup with a 4-1 win the second leg just 7 days later to
win 4-3 on aggregate.
In between those ties, the Dragons saw off Northampton Town 3-1 at Sixfields
that also saw Cobblers striker Leon Constantine score a blinder.
The Dragons then faced two midlands derbies with a close fort 3-2 win away
to Leicester City followed by a 2-0 away win at St.Andrews against bitter
rivals Birmingham City.
Pre-season came to an end this past weekend as the Dragons travelled to
Florence in Italy for a mini tournament that saw a 3-1 win over Greek side
Olympiakos followed by a 1-1 with the hosts.
