HARCHESTER UNITED PLAYER PROFILE ...

20. JASON PORTER
Name: Jason Porter
Country: England
Position: Striker

Signed from: Free Transfer in August 2006
Debut: Charlton Athletic (Home), FA Premier League, 30th December 2006

Jason Porter signed for Harchester United on a free transfer in August 2006 following a strange incident during a pre-season friendly.

At a young age, Porter signed schoolboy forms with Harchester United and went on to become a part of the club's Youth Academy.

Problems at home though eventually took their toll on the youngster and his standard of football started to decline, so he was eventually released from the Youth Academy at the age of 15.

Porter decided to then quit football and got himself a job as a Tyre Fitter after leaving school. But he was still a massive Harchester United supporter - he was a season ticket holder, attending every away game as well.

It was at a pre-season friendly away at Southend United in which Porter constantly made his feelings known to then-manager Alex Rose. Fed up of the abuse, Rose got Porter down from the stands, told him to put a kit on and brought him on as a substitute. Porter went on to score.

Rose later went on to offer Porter a trial at the club, he of course accepted and went on to sign for the club he adored. A real dream come true.

The dream was complete when it was his goal that clinched the Premier League title in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the end of the 2006/07 season to make Harchester United Champions!

Off the pitch, Porter has his troubles. He was wrongly accused of being the online Dragonslayer blogger that caused all sorts of havoc behind the scenes in the 2006/07 title run-in - this later emerged to be former captain Danny Sullivan.

Porter fell of the wagon during the 2007/08 season, becoming an alcoholic - he was later sent to rehab and out on loan to Derby County for a short period the following season.

Now, Porter finds himself as a 4th choice striker in manager Erik Gentner's plans. He knows he'll never be first choice, but he just gets on with it as a true professional would and knows how to make an impact when he gets his chance.
