 Reijmond Van Den Bergh arrived at Harchester United in the summer of 2010 and was very much a surprise signing for a club that was bidding for Premier League success.
Van Den Bergh signed from Dutch second tier side De Graafschap, who had just won promotion to the Eredivisie. During that season, the 17 year old scored 47 goals in their League campaign alone.
After beating off competition from Ajax and FC Twente, it was Harchester United who lured the striker away from the Dutch side for a price of just £3million.
This price ended up being a massive bargain as Van Den Bergh went on to strike up a fantastic partnership alongside fellow new signing Jay Marney and the Dragons went on to not only finish in 2nd place in the Premier League, but also win the Carling Cup thanks to their goals.
Van Den Bergh's form won him the accolade of PFA Young Player of The Year and was also named in the PFA Premier League XI of the 2010/11 season. He was also nominated in the final 6 of the PFA Player's Player of the Year Award. |
