HARCHESTER UNITED PLAYER PROFILE ...

29. RYAN NAYSMITH
Name: Ryan Naysmith
Country: England
Position: Midfield

Signed from: Villarreal in June 2007
Debut: Chelsea (Wembley), FA Community Shield, 5th August 2007

Ryan Naysmith signed for Harchester United from Spanish side Villarreal in the summer of 2007 for a fee of around £7million.

Naysmith originally signed for Harchester United in the autumn of 2002, shortly after being released by Birmingham City. He signed after completing a trial under his mothers surname of Greene.

That season saw a Harchester United and Premier League first as Ryan and his dad Stuart Naysmith became the first father an son duo to play together in the same team.

Ryan Naysmith kept his place in the team until an incident around Christmas time saw him accused of running somebody over whilst drink driving. He was later found not to be responsible for this.

Then, just as things started looking up again, he was ruled out for the rest of the season after being seriously injured in an off-the-pitch bust up with captain Marcel Sabatier.

The following season saw Naysmith blossom with new signing Luke Davenport so much to the point where they were both called up to the England squad. However, rather than inspire Naysmith, this seemed to be too much for him and was admitted to a Mental Health Centre.

Upon his return some months later, Naysmith played his part in helping the Dragons qualify for the Champions League - but he was unable to play in any of that competition the following campaign due to breaking his leg whilst in training for a pre-Euro 2004 squad training.

Naysmith recovered to feature for the final few games of the 2004/05 Championship season, however he missed the Play Off Final against West Ham in which the Dragons won 1-0, thus gaining promotion to the Premier League again.

Tragedy struck following that match as there was an explosion in the Car Park of the Millennium Stadium in which all but 3 members of the Harchester United squad died. Naysmith was one of the 3 survivors.

The 2005/06 season saw Naysmith really starting to hit top form once again. But yet again, something went wrong for Naysmith as a fight on the pitch with team-mate Gavin Moody during an FA Cup Quarter Final led to Naysmith receiving a ban which put his chances of making England's World Cup squad in jeopardy.

Everything worked out fine in the end this time though as Naysmith went on to win the FA Cup with Harchester United and also become the club's first England World Cup player for 20 years.

This though, ended up being a burden as Naysmith signed for Spanish side Villarreal following the World Cup for a fee of £8million.

A year later though, and Naysmith re-signed for Harchester United for £7million along with his new-team-mate Diego Forlan.

During his year away, Naysmith missed out on winning the Premier League with Harchester United, something he has openly admitted to being the biggest mistake of his life.

Upon his return to the Dragon's, Naysmith has been a part of the side that has reached the Champions League Semi Finals, finished 2nd in the Premier League and won the Carling Cup in 2011. Naysmith was also a part of England's World Cup squad once again in 2010.

Off the pitch thesedays, it is fair to say that Naysmith has done alot of growing up and keeps his head down and out of trouble - fully focussed on football as per orders of the management!
